(August 23, 2004) - The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) announced that astronaut Neil Armstrong and test pilot Scott A. Crossfield will present the 2nd Annual Harry B. Combs Award during the Opening General Session of the NBAA 57th Annual Meeting & Convention on Tuesday, October 12 in Las Vegas, NV. Armstrong, the first man to set foot on the surface of the moon, and Crossfield, the first to fly both Mach 2 and Mach 3, will present the Combs Award to a recipient who will be announced next month by the National Aviation Hall of Fame (NAHF).
Through the Combs Award, the NAHF annually presents $20,000 to an individual or group completing a project that advances the promotion or preservation of America's air and space heritage, with special emphasis on the individual pioneers who defined America's aerospace horizons. The award is named in honor of the late Harry B. Combs, a 1996 National Aviation Hall of Fame enshrinee who was a significant force in civil aviation.
In related news, NBAA officials are busy working on another notable event. On Friday, September 17, NBAA will host an Operation REACHBAC (Regional Effort to Advise, Communicate with and Help the Business Aviation Community) REACHBAC event in conjunction with the Westchester Aviation Association. The event will feature Ed Bolen, NBAA's new president and CEO, along with special guest speaker Jim Lovell, commander of the Apollo 13 mission and currently president of Lovell Communications. The complimentary buffet luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Westchester County Airport (HPN), Hangar E, 85 Tower Rd., White Plains, NY.
